Life in Red & Black

Life never pretends. It only exist…sometimes red in tooth and claw; sometimes black with the shades of reality, which may not look so pleasing to the eye, but reflect the very genesis of existence. The superimposition of red and black in these frames is very conscious, not just because these colours are overpowering with their haunting beauty, but also because these are the colours of life itself.

Red is the master contradictor, as life is. Romantic and destructive at once, red stands out as the colour of life…bringing the humans face to face with reality, which like blood may remain hidden in the veins and arteries, but is the very truth of our being. It is also a colour synonymous with rebellion, a human trait too difficult to be ignored; it is stunning in its beauty and lethal in its power.

Black exemplifies the human urge to stay basic, whatever the circumstances. It is a colour as basic to the scheme of art as instincts are to us humans. It is also the hue that never reflects, only absorbs, feeding on life force that nature has to offer. Inspiring us to remain true to our convictions. Black stands tall as the colour of “justice and fair play”. The basic conditions for dignified living.

Both the colours thus celebrate life its most unpretentious, most unadulterated form. In these frames they team up with real-life subjects to bring to life the purpose of all art, which is…to be true to the cause, never feign. The pictures are extensions of my faith in life,…which never pretends.
